Although a lot of my time was spent on Myspace or AIM, I still enjoyed watching these channels.
I can’t tell you where this idea for this post came from but here we are. These are the channels I was subscribed to and watched in the early days like 2009-2011. Some I still follow, others I stopped years ago.
Fun fact: in eighth grade, I actually made a few fan videos on Youtube for The Outsiders as we read the book and watched the movie. The videos are probably still out there but I haven’t been able to find them since.
1.) Shane Dawson
I was 13/14 when I started watching Shane’s videos. This was when he was doing skits with different characters and music videos. I don’t remember a lot of them, but I must’ve enjoyed them because I’m still subscribed to Shane. I like how much his content has changed and is still changing.

2.) charlieissocoollike
Next to Shane, I’ve watched Charlie the longest. I don’t remember what got me watching him but he was always a constant reminder to embrace what you love and not care what others think. It’s been fun seeing him grow up and become who he is and I’m still subscribed to him as well.

3.) The Shaytards
If you’re unaware who they are, the Shaytards are a vlogging family who did just that: vlogged every day for many years but you may have heard about their recent controversies (which I won’t get into.) I started watching them when they moved to LA and followed the dad, Shay’s weight loss journey for a while. I stopped around 2012 but enjoyed them while I did.
4.) bubzbeauty
When I was in high school I liked to experiment with different hairstyles and braids and this was one of the channels I got inspiration from. Whether it was hair or skin care or even makeup, I learned a lot from Bubz.
5.) EddsWorld
It’s been almost eight years since I discovered this channel. It was created by Edd Gould who drew himself and his friends and created stories for them. I love the humor and artwork style. Sadly, Edd passed away in 2012 to cancer so the channel hasn’t been updated in three years but the videos are still there to enjoy.

6.) The Annoying Orange
I went through a phase where I found these videos…funny. Granted it wasn’t a long phase but I remember looking forward to a new video each week. I think I liked some of the smaller characters like Marshmallow. I can’t believe I still remember that.
