Top 6: Spooky Shows

I couldn’t go this entire month without making a spooky list.

For this list, I’m including shows that, well, can be considered “spooky” but don’t necessarily have to be Halloween related. They can include elements considered scary such as ghosts or zombies.

And these are my personal favorites, shows I watch and enjoy. Whether you believe in some of the things I’m going to talk about, doesn’t matter.

1.) The Haunting of Hill House

Out of the list, it may not be a show I want to rewatch all the time (since it can get seriously depressing) but it’s such a good ghost story. There were so many times I got creeped out while watching, especially when spotting a ghost in the background.

I did a review for the show here, but will always recommend it.

2.) Supernatural

Supernatural hasn’t always scared me, but there have been episodes that actually creeped me out, usually in the first few seasons. When they strayed away from monsters and focused on demons and angels, I wasn’t as spooked, but the Leviathans brought that back (for me.)

3.) Ghost Hunters

I grew up watching Ghost Hunters. I love the concept of disproving a haunting before assuming something’s actually there. However, there were plenty of times I no joke, slept with my mom after an episode because I got too scared.

I find things moving or voices cool, but if I see an actual figure, like an outline or shadow, I’m done.

4.) So Weird

I did a post about So Weird a few months back, but it’s a Disney show that aired in the late ’90s about a girl who always runs into the paranormal. I’ll be honest, it scared me more than some other shows on this list, especially for a kid’s show. It’s a bit like Supernatural, with all kinds of monsters popping up, but with less death…okay some death.

5.) Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction

I forgot about this show but my family watched it all the time. Each episode told at least four stories with “impossible” events, maybe defying physics or something with ghosts or abductions, and in the end, you would decide which ones were based on true stories.

It’s pretty incredible to learn which ones could be actually real.

6.) The Walking Dead

I put this on the list for the mere reason that is the Walkers. If you give the show any credit, their designs are amazing. The ones that still kind of look human don’t creep me out too much, but when they’re skeletons, or stuck in a swamp, or even the Whisperers dressed up as Walkers, is usually when they scare me.

I mentioned it in a recap of the episode the Whisperers were introduced, but I don’t think I had been so creeped out by the show than when they went from acting like Walkers to running at the group with weapons. It legitimately scared me.

Honorable Mentions

  • Paranormal Lockdown
  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer
  • Castle Rock
  • The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
  • Destination Truth
  • Paranormal State

I’ve never seen shows like American Horror Story or even the X-Files (excluding a few episodes,) if you may have expected to see on the list. Most of these I grew up watching and still enjoy today.

So, what are your favorite spooky shows?

I love love love spooky shows so this was a fun list to read! Yay for the Haunting of Hill House! SUCH a good one! I can’t wait for season two! And I used to be obsessed with ghost hunting shows like Paranormal State and Ghost Hunters. There’s one on Netflix that’s really good called Haunted, which has people telling their scary ghost/demon stories and actually has GOOD reenactments of the events (you know, not the cheesy ones you see in other shows!) that’s very, very creepy.

This was such a good list! I’ll have to check out some of the ones you mentioned on the list! 🙂

Hahaha I know what you mean about those reenactments. Some of them are so cringey.

I should check that out on Netflix. I don’t think I ever heard of it. Do you still watch paranormal shows? Have you seen the “new” Ghost Hunters with just Grant? And Jason, Steve, and Tango have their own show.

      Thanks for stopping by Emily!

Great list, I’ve seen a handful of Supernatural episodes – I really need to catch up – and I love watching The Walking Dead. The others are new to me though. Buffy and Sabrina would definitely be on my list, I’ve recently started watching the original Sabrina again. It’s a fun show.
