Unboxing: Unicorn Crate “Heart of a Dragon”

Unbox the magic.

I’ve been looking for a new monthly subscription as I haven’t subscribed to any for a while (which is an accomplishment for me.) After looking around, I discovered Unicorn Crate, a YA fantasy book box. However, their every-other-month subscription was out-of-stock so I had to get an old box, and this one is from August 2019.

One of the reasons I chose “Heart of a Dragon” is because, as stated in the description, most of the items are not fandom-related.

The actual box it comes in is super cute and all the items fit well into the dragon theme.

“Bright Star” by Erin Swan + Note & Bookplate

But that voice continued to whisper in her mind, When the moment comes, you must stand, and you must fight. And so she raced on, back toward the battle she’d been commanded to leave.

Obviously, this book has dragons and the main character, Andra is mute after a traumatic experience and works as a servant. After she escapes with a group of assassins she is thrust into the ranks of a secret rebellion, while also having help from a loyal dragon.

The book is one of the reasons I chose this box and I’m excited to read it. It gives me a little bit of Mulan vibes so that could be a factor.

“Dragon Soap” by Bud and Bee

Before I even opened the box, I could smell this soap.  It’s not bad, I think there’s some cinnamon in it, but I don’t think I will ever use it. I just don’t know how I will after seeing and feeling the detail. It’s incredibly impressive. This one will probably just sit out for others to appreciate as well.

The fragrance is specifically called “Dragon Rider.”

“Book Dragon Wax Seal Set”

I’ve never used a wax seal set, but I think I got one in another box. The seal is a dragon with the words, “Book Dragon.” I love the color of the wax and hopefully will find a reason to use it.

“Dragon Scales Necklace” by Enchanted Bottle Craft

I love this necklace. A lot of the time, when I get jewelry in a box, I find them too big. But the small bottle is so cute and it took me a couple times to notice the dagger. The colors are right up my alley and this is one of my favorite items in the box.

“Canvas Zipper Pouch” by A Woodland Fairy Tale

I love when dragons don’t look “traditionally” dragon. I like it when there’s a different take on them and this one specifically looks to dwell underwater with the fins and webbed limbs. It’s on both sides and the pouch itself is a good size and deeper than it appears.

“Pocket Notebook” by Sandara

Like the pouch, I love the design of the dragon and its plant/flower look. The notebook itself is small and could easily fit into a tiny bag. I want to start carrying a small notebook with me and I think I just found it.

The pages are also blank, something I prefer to line.

“Art Print” and “Unicorn Enamel Pin”

The art print, which is inspired by The Last Namsara is by “ThimsyWhimsy” and it’s so well done. I haven’t read the book but the character looks cool and caught my interest.

It’s been so long since I got a new pin. I hang them on a corkboard to show off and it shows off the logo of Unicorn Crate.

Overall

I’m glad I went with this box. Sometimes when I get a book box I can’t appreciate all the items because I might not have read a certain book or I’m not part of a specific fandom but like the description said, you don’t have to be part of anything to enjoy it.

The boxes are around $37, but I got mine on a discount. Personally, compared to boxes I’ve gotten in the past, this feels like an average price. Maybe a little pricey for some people but I do think I got my money’s worth, especially if the boxes are only coming out every-other-month.

I would also recommend checking out their “Goodies” link with all kinds of items from numerous crates for sale separately.

I’m happy with this box and will check out Unicorn Crate in the future.

I’ve never heard of this box before, but it sounds amazing! I’ve never subscribed to a book box, I’m definitely tempted now though… The necklace looks very cool, and the dragon on the front of that notebook is adorable!

I’ve never heard of this box before, but it sounds like this dragon themed boxed was a hit! I seriously CANNOT get over that soap. Um…what??? Talk about freakin’ craftmanship!! And that wax seal?? *swoon* I’ve always wanted to have one, so let me know if you end up using it! I’m so glad you loved this box. Sometimes with subscription boxes you never quite know what will be inside, so you get your hopes up and sometimes it misses the mark. But with this I can tell you got your money worth, because everything in it was so carefully crafted and excellent!! Also, a new book to read!! Yay!!
