What If…The World Lost Its Mightiest Heroes? – Review

There’s always hope…even when the Avengers are taken out.

It’s been a lot of fun logging into Disney+ and seeing what each week’s episode is about. I knew this one involved Fury’s big week, but wasn’t sure how it would play out. Then again, aside from the first episode, I have no idea how any of these will.

My reviews of What If…? so far:

There Was An Idea

For those who don’t know, Fury’s big week is when the events of Thor, Iron Man 2, and The Incredible Hulk happen within one week.

Someone finds out about the Avengers Initiative and just as Fury is in his recruiting stage, they’re taken out one after another. Steve isn’t out of the ice yet, but it was a lot to take in. The episode, like the others, is quick so a lot happens at once. Granted, I like that they’re so quick so no filler gets in the way. It’s focused on the question and what could happen after.

Of course, many of the actors come back to voice their animated selves like Samuel L. Jackson and Clarke Gregg back as Phil Coulson, who was a treat. Even Loki makes…more than an appearance.

This episode is a mixture of comedy but with a darker tone. I couldn’t help but laugh at what was going on but at the same time, the deaths aren’t always pleasant to watch. However, my favorite part is trying to figure out who is the one targeting the Avengers, but when it’s revealed in the end, it makes sense. The deaths are strange. No one knows how it’s being done.

Once again, What If…? released a strong episode. When the show first came out, I expected the tiniest things to be the change, like in the first episode. This one is much bigger and rather than it being a small change, it’s a one thing after another.

They’re asking questions I never thought about. Sure, you could wonder about Peggy taking the serum, but someone murdering the Avengers before becoming the Avengers wasn’t on that list.
