I finally got out of the house.
It’s been almost three months since I’ve been anywhere other than small, short trips for appointments or grocery shopping. I wanted to actually go somewhere since we finally had a nice weekend for travel.
My anxiety also has been pretty bad over the last week (as you can probably assume why) and this trip truly helped that.
The Phipps Conservatory
As the title says, the conservatory is in Pittsburgh near Shenley Park (if you’re aware of where that is) or in other words, downtown.
I’ve never been there so I was excited to go somewhere new and see some plants. With it being the end of February, I wasn’t expecting a lot of outdoor plants and flowers.
To our surprise, it was pretty busy. However, they require everyone to wear a mask, buy timed tickets, and make sure everyone goes one way and follow a path. There was never a point where I felt there were too many people. It was kind of weird and awesome how everyone spread out so easy.
We then went into different rooms.
One is dedicated to orchids (and smelled great), desert plants, ferns, and for the next few months a Hawaiian room, which will change into something else eventually, but for now it’s supposed to help get rid of the winter blues and that it did.
I don’t plan on going to the beach this year so I’m glad I got the effect of being there for a few minutes in the Hawaiian room with the respect that my hair frizzed and curled. It was great.
It took us about an hour to get through it all and that’s without most of the outdoor areas being open except a Japanese garden, which actually had Koi fish hibernating at the bottom of the ponds.
And in the end, I spent too much at the gift shop.
I got an orchid and a planter for it along with food (they had so many plants), a magnet, book of postcards, sticker, and small, handmade bowel.
What will I use it for? Who knows.
They also do weddings and parties, and despite wanting to get married on a beach, I’d love to have something there.
My family is actually considering becoming members because of how often we think we’re going to visit within the next few months.
New things are added along with flower markets and the butterfly garden opening the week of my birthday in May actually, so Happy Birthday to me.
It’s weird how I’ve never been here before nor knew where it was considering I’ve been downtown (around the University of Pittsburgh) before and it’s literally around the corner.
That was my trip to the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. I hope to go back next month or within that timeframe.
And here’s their website for anyone wondering.
