Abbott Elementary (Season One)

Abbott Elementary is a show that I knew I would like but just never got around to watching it, and I’m so glad I did. It’s an “Office-style” show with the characters aware of the cameras filming them while giving interviews. And The Office is one of my favorite shows, so it makes sense.

The staff works at Abbott Elementary in Philadelphia and the show tackles all issues from not getting enough funding, problem students, as well as the characters and their personal lives. I like that it’s not only funny, but the characters are well written and you like each of them for different reasons.

I’m actually caught up with the show and it’s something I look forward to every week.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

I actually saw Wakanda Forever when it came out but I did not have a good theater experience, so it was nice to watch it at home without dozens of children running around and talking.

That being said, I really enjoy this movie. I think they did a good job of tackling Chadwick Boseman’s death while introducing a completely new civilization into the world. Everyone in the cast did so good and you really feel their grief. I like the Black Panther films because the jokes are minimal, but still work.

I think my only gripe are the scenes with Everette Ross and Val. It’s like they weren’t sure what to do with him in this movie, and sometimes they felt out of place.

But I’m looking forward to seeing more of Riri Williams in her show.

The Last of Us (Episodes 1-3)

I wanted to wait until I was in a better state mentally before starting The Last of Us and may have dived a little too quickly in, so this is about as far as I’ve gone. Episode three was a big indicator of that.

However, I like what I’ve watched so far. I haven’t gotten into anything post-apocalyptic since I stopped watching The Walking Dead years ago, and I would very much rather live in that universe than this one because the cordyceps are terrifying. I was legit scared the first time a clicker was actually shown, and for that, huge kudos.

I am aware of the basics of what happens in the game, basically just Joel and Ellie, so I kind of know what’s coming, but the stuff I didn’t see coming got me. Like many have said, episode three tugged at me in a way that took me a few days to get over, but now that I’m good, I can appreciate how well done it is. Or just how well done the show is in general.

I have to give myself a break before getting back into the show, but I’m looking forward to when that happens.

The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians)

I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to read this series. I saw the movie when it came out, but that’s as far as I got. I like Greek mythology and still learned a lot about it in this book. I actually have to remind myself it’s a kid’s book because there are times things can get heavy.

Despite the heavy stuff, it’s still fun, and I can see now why so many people disliked the movie when it came out. There’s so much more to the books in terms of character development, just seeing the characters get closer, the mythology in general, and how big of stakes everything is, as well as Percy just existing.

I also haven’t read a book in months, mostly because I haven’t been able to focus on anything, and I think I started it at the perfect time. I think I read the first six chapters in one sitting.

My sister owns the series, so onto book two.
