What If…T’Challa Became a Star-Lord? – Review

Or…what if T’Challa fixed the Universe?

This is Chadwick Boseman’s last performance as T’Challa and it ends on a high note. What I’ve been liking about these episodes isn’t just the main question itself but all the small changes that come from it, and boy does this one have a lot.

what if t'challa is star lord

Not Crazy. Mad.

In this reality, the Ravagers pick up the wrong kid. Peter Quill grows up on earth while T’Challa travels the galaxy and becomes a legendary hero. People know his name. In the first episode, a lot is still similar to The First Avenger. Here, the changes are more notable and big. There was a lot I wasn’t expecting featuring Thanos, Nebula, and Howard the Duck.

Nature vs nurture is the main theme of this episode. T’Challa is still the T’Challa we know from the movies despite not growing up the same way. He’s still surrounded by people who he called family and became hero without the Black Panther title.

It’s a lot harder for me to talk about this episode just because so much happens and I don’t want to spoil anything. But to put it short: T’Challa seems to be a hero no matter what reality he’s in or title he has because he’s saved countless people and changed minds. There are fanboys.

I’ve seen some people say it’s a bit of a stretch this episode, but that’s the point and the title speaks for itself. This is just one specific change. It another reality, T’Challa is taken but things don’t turn out so well. Or some things stay the same as our reality. There are infinite possibilities and this is just one.

In my opinion, this episode is a lot of fun, more-so than last episode. I think those “stretches” is what makes this one stand out more. And hearing Chadwick’s voice again should be a big enough reason to check this out, even if you don’t watch the rest of the season. You really don’t have to keep up with this show at all and can pick which question intrigues you the most.

There was a lot of stuff I couldn’t get on board with in this episode – not least Nebula dressed like a 70s bond girl, and the whole thing with Thanos wasn’t believable. But then, GoTG got a talking space raccoon (who I relate to way too much,) so… *shrugs*
